La Fillette lime turns deadly for beachgoer

A PARAMIN, Maraval, man who drowned on Sunday afternoon while bathing with friends at La Fillette Bay was, on Monday, identified as 20-year-old Lorenzo Felix.

Police said Felix and friends were at the beach around 4 p.m. when he got into difficulty while neck-deep in water.

The strong currents being experienced off Trinidad's north coast apparently pulled him further out to sea, and he disappeared below the water.

His body resurfaced around 7 p.m., and it was taken to the Port of Spain Mortuary where a post-mortem yesterday concluded he had indeed drowned.

Within the last three weeks, a total of four people, including Felix, have drowned while bathing at Maracas, Tyrico and, now, La Fillette.

The Coast Guard continues to advise bathers to pay attention to the unusually strong currents at this time.

Maracas Bay Police are continuing investigations.
