Canadian High Commissioner Gerard Latulippe is calling for timely reform of the criminal justice system as a tribute to the work of slain senior counsel Dana Seetahal.
In a statement yesterday, Latulippe, who offered condolences to Seetahal’s family, friends, colleagues and the nation on behalf of the government and people of Canada on her untimely death, said those who plotted and carried out the attack may have thought that they could destroy the activism, innovative ideas and quest for justice personified by this singular person.
“They were wrong. Seetahal’s courageous efforts on behalf of justice for the people of this country will never be forgotten or abandoned but rather taken up with renewed vigour.
“Let her life continue to be an example to others. Let effective and timely criminal justice reform be one of her lasting legacies,” he said.
Latulippe added that he appreciates the stated commitment of this country’s leadership and its law enforcement agencies to bring Seetahal’s killers to justice because it is imperative that this is done.
