Machine guns found in mangrove

TWO sub-machine guns, a rifle and a pistol were found by the police in the mangrove near the Beetham Landfill between Friday night and Saturday.

According to the police they received information that the guns were being stored in barrels and buried in the mangrove.

On Friday night a team of officers led by Ag Snr Supt John Martinez and Ag ASP Boxill plodded through the mangrove and found two of the sub-machine rifles.

Other officers in the exercise were from Northern Division and North Eastern Division Task Force. On Saturday morning they returned and found two more guns, namely another rifle and a pistol. They were found in sealed plastic barrels but all had quite a few months of rust on them.

Police said that the guns were still operational but were unable to tell what brand guns they were.

No-one was arrested.

Investigations are continuing. —GG
