A Princes Town man with multiple convictions was yesterday spared a jail term for the possession of cocaine.

Lennox Marcano was charged with the possession of .8 grammes of cocaine and a device used for smoking the drug.

He pleaded guilty in the Princes Town First Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Rae Roopchand.

Marcano was held at around noon on Thursday, at Naparima/Mayaro Road, Princes Town.

Marcano said he works as a jersey and sign printer.

He said, "Sometimes I does want a little smoke to continue work. I was frustrated at the time. I was not getting work. And I did a job and get some money and I went and handle my children and grandchildren, pay some bill, and I buy the drugs."

Marcano said he had four previous convictions and went to jail three times before.

He said he wanted help to be rehabilitated but got no help.

Marcano was given 28 days to pay a $2,500 fine or serve four months in prison.

Magistrate Roopchand advised Marcano to go home, take a bath, and meet with the court probation officer to discuss rehabilitation.
