AN 11-year-old girl yesterday attended court as the alleged victim of an act of grievous sexual assault.
The girl and her mother were present in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court yesterday as the charge was read to accused Jerry Yasin.
The alleged incident occurred last Friday in La Romaine.
Yasin, 51, of La Romaine, was unrepresented when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.
The court heard that he had previous convictions for larceny.
Wellington granted him $50,000 surety bail which has to be approved by a clerk of the peace.
As a condition for bail, Yasin is to have no contact with the girl.
Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan asked that she be allowed to return to court for the start of the matter as she will be attending school.
It is alleged that the child accompanied Yasin last week Friday on a trip to a service station, but along the way, he stopped in a lonely area and touched her on her genitals.
The case was adjourned to July 23.
