Gardener, 72, murdered

...murder toll now 261

A 72-year-old Freeport man was found murdered in his home last night. The body of Balliram Singh, of Agostini Settlement, Limehead Road, was discovered by his wife, Wakeeda Seetaram.

According to a police report, Seetaram said she last saw Singh at around 5.30 p.m. on Monday.

The woman, who lives in Cunupia, told police that she tried calling him on several occasions but he did not answer his phone.
At around 8.30 p.m. she went to the house to check on him.

Singh, a gardener, was found him with his hands bound behind his back and mouth gagged. He lying naked on the floor in a pool of blood.

Officers of the Central Division Task Force led by Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham, Inspector Glen Teasedale, and Sgt Jitendra Tooleram went to the scene.
The body was viewed by DMO Dr Indarjit Birjah. An autopsy is expected to be performed today at Forensic Sciences Centre.
Singh's killing took the murder toll to 261 according to an Express tally.
