A 78-year-old man was found dead at home, throat slit, shortly after he returned from church on Wednesday.
Bernard Duprey was found by his wife around 9.30 a.m. The body was found at the base of the front steps leading to the house. The killing happened at Chinapoo, Morvant. Duprey had attended the Jehovah Witness church in the area that morning, the police were told.
Police said Duprey had been threatened some weeks ago, by a thief who had entered his yard and stolen mangoes from his fruit tree.
Duprey's killing is the 41 recorded homicide for the year. He is the fourth pensioner to be killed this year. On January 2, mentally challenged Leroy Haynes, 65, was set on fire and beaten to death in Cocorite. On January 7, 63 year old Krishna Ramdeen was stabbed to death at his Cedros home. On January 16, Abadd Mohammed, 60, was chopped to death in Rio Claro. The killings have not been solved.
