Man denies $.2m jewelry theft

By Innis Francis

A 47-year-old man pleaded not guilty to stealing $215,000 worth of jewelry from Mohan’s Jewelry at Mucurapo Street, San Fernando.

Roger Bissoon, a labourer, of Southern Main Road, La Romaine, appeared in the First San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with store breaking and larceny.

It was alleged that sometime between June 21 and 27, Bissoon broke into the store and took the items.

Bissoon told Chief Deputy Magistrate Mark Wellington that 12 months ago he was convicted for cocaine possession.

He was granted bail with a surety of $125,000 to be approved by a clerk of the peace and the matter was transferred to the San Fernando Fourth Court to be heard on August 19.
