Man dies after being beaten on head
A 54-YEAR-OLD man has died after being beaten on his head with a piece of wood.
Relatives of Gangapersad Harrypersad said they were confused as to why anyone would want to kill him.
Harrypersad’s body was discovered in a pool of blood near a bus shed at Gopee Trace, Penal, yesterday around 8 a.m.
An anonymous call was made to Penal Police Station by a passerby.
Relative Ishwar Singh said he was informed of Harrypersad’s death by one of Harrypersad’s friends.
“I was leaving to go to work around half past seven this morning, when one of his partners came and told me he got beaten out by the road. By the time we reached the bus shed, he was already dead.”
He said Harrypersad, who was diabetic, never stayed in one particular place, but he would sometimes visit his niece, Singh’s wife Drupatee Singh, at their home at Mohess Road, Penal.
He spent most of the time on the streets. Singh said he would sometimes do painting jobs.
Singh, a carpenter, said he was told by police the only reason someone may have for killing Harrypersad was if he witnessed a crime that was taking place where he was.
“He (Harrypersad) does not have any enemies. He never troubled anybody and nobody used to harass him or anything like that. He was very peaceful.”
