Man drowns after saving relatives Maracas Bay

PHILLIP BABWAH drowned yesterday after saving two of his relatives at Maracas Bay.

Babwah, 49, of Claxton Bay, was at the beach around 9 a.m when his son and daughter-in-law got into difficulty.

Babwah and two men entered the water to assist.

His son and daughter-in-law were rescued, but Babwah and the man were then pulled underwater.

The two men were helped by beach-goers to the shore.

Babwah was rushed to hospital but died on arrival.

Eyewitnesses said a woman alerted the lifeguards from the time the son and daughter-and-law got into difficulty, but the lifeguards were slow in responding.

It was said that they arrived after bathers had pulled Babwah from the water.
