A 21-year-old Point Fortin man was arrested by police on Wednesday after he allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl whom he met on a social network.
The suspect was arrested after a report was made by the girl’s mother to the police.
According to police, the 14-year-old secondary school pupil went missing on Wednesday and a report was made to the Siparia Police Station the next day.
WPC Josanne Edwards and other police officers of the Point Fortin Police Station found the girl at a house in Point Fortin.
Officers conducted enquiries and the suspect was arrested at his home.
He was expected to be charged with the offence of sexual intercourse with a female between the age of 14 and 16 on July 9.
He will appear before a Siparia magistrate.
