Man in court for hammer murder of landlady

JAYVON Caesar appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court today charged with murdering his landlord Viyda Persad, with a hammer blow to the head.

Persad was killed near her home at Moulla Trace, Aranguez on August 6 after she attempted to collect outstanding rent from a tenant.

Caesar, 30, of La Canoa, Santa Cruz, surrendered to police on Tuesday, in the company of his attorney Amanda Lacaille, and was taken before
Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayres-Caesar.

The unemployed man was remanded in prison custody and will reappear in court on September 12. Detective Constable Nigel Samuel laid the charge.
