Man killed in highway crash, pregnant wife survives

A MORVANT man was killed but his pregnant wife escaped
serious injury in a car crash in Caroni on Thursday.

Keron Castillo, 27, of Paradise Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene, while passenger Sachiel Shalene Rampersad, 25, of Diego Martin, was taken to hospital.

Police said Castillo was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer headed north along the Uriah Butler Highway when at around 6.10 p.m. in the vicinity of Caroni he lost control and crashed into a lamp-post on the western side of the road.

Chaguanas fire officers used the jaws of life to cut into the wreck and take the victims out, assisted by Cpls Nanco and Guerra, and PCs Garcia and Cox from the Freeport Highway Patrol.

Rampersad was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility, and later warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
An autopsy is expected to be performed on Castillo today.
