Man murdered in Belmont

A BELMONT man was shot dead early yesterday morning when he parked in front of a neighbour’s house to take her to Piarco International Airport.

The murder toll stood at 46 up to last night, while on February 1 last year the figure was 35.

Yesterday’s incident occurred around 4 a.m., according to the police.

At that time, the victim, Dwayne Ruben, 30, drove his car to Upper St Francois Valley Road, Belmont, and stopped in front of his neighbour’s house.

No-one saw what happened next but several gunshots were heard by residents.

When they came out, they found Ruben’s body near to his car. He had been killed on the spot.

Several police officers from the Belmont CID as well as the Homicide Bureau visited the scene.

The body was eventually moved to the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park, where a post-mortem concluded that Ruben died as a result of the multiple gunshots he received.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.  —GG
