Man shot dead

AN East Port of Spain man was gunned down near his home on Sunday night, taking the murder toll for the year to date to 366.

The figure on December 9, 2012 was 364.

With regard to the latest homicide, police said around 10.30 p.m., the victim, Hayden Figaro, 31, walked out of his Clifton Hill Circular home in East Dry River, Port of Spain.

His relatives were at home at the time and said they heard gunshots.

When they investigated, they found Figaro lying on the road with gunshots to his head, chest and back.

His relatives took him to Port of Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said they had no motive as to why Figaro was gunned down as he was not known for being involved in anything illegal.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.

Police are also continuing investigations into the death of three-year-old Jabari Hernandez, who passed away on the evening of November 30.

An autopsy, which had been done days after, concluded the child died as a result of blunt force trauma to his chest and the police began an investigation into what happened.

Interviewed last Tuesday by the Express, a close male relative of the child, who only wanted to be known as “Papa”, said the child fell while playing at the family’s home at Marie-Emmanuel Road in Cumuto on November 18 and was taken first to Sangre Grande District Hospital and then transferred to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex at Mount Hope, where he spent approximately a week.

Last week, “Papa” stated he wanted a second autopsy done on the child’s body as he did not agree with the findings of the first one, but when contacted yesterday he said he had no comment about the matter.

Investigations are on-going by detectives of the Homicide Bureau in Arouca.
