A PLUM Mitan man was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with police in a forested area in Biche on Monday.
Chandrabhose Samaroo, 32, was pronounced dead in the Charuma forest.
Another man, a 30-year-old also of Plum Mitan, who was wounded, is under police guard at hospital, while a third man was arrested by police.
A fourth man escaped.
According to investigators, on Monday, police officers of the Sangre Grande Task Force were on a marijuana eradication exercise in the forested area when, at around 4 p.m., they were informed of four men at a house in Fitz Trace, Charuma.
Police went to the house and upon arrival the four suspects began shooting at them.
Officers returned fire and Samaroo was killed, police said.
The wounded man was taken for treatment at Sangre Grande Area Hospital.
A post-mortem was expected to be performed yesterday at Forensic Science Centre, St James.
