Man shot eight times in Malabar
A MAN was murdered on Friday night near his Malabar, Arima home, bringing the year’s murder toll to 299 according to an Express tally.
Police said around 10.30 p.m. the victim, Jerome “Patty” Alfonso, 35, was at the corner of Lengua and Joseph Street in Malabar when two men walked up to him and opened fire.
Alfonso was hit eight times about the body and minutes later died on the side of the road.
Neighbours who heard the gunshots later called the police.
A team of officers led by Supt David Abraham and including Sgt Mark Maharaj and Cpl Hosten responded and conducted investigations.
The body was eventually moved to the Port of Spain Mortuary.
Investigators said Alfonso’s death is linked to ongoing gang warfare in the area with Alfonso being the sixth man to be killed this week in Arima.
Among those killed last week was Shiyloh McIntosh, aged 21, who was the husband of Congress of the People (cop) candidate Kizzy Edwards for Malabar South in the upcoming Local Government elections.
Interviewed earlier last week Edwards said that McIntosh was killed because they were doing something positive with their lives which made many people around them jealous.
Police described all six murders as gang related.
