Man stabbed to death in St James bar fight

By Gyasi Gonzales

A St JAMES man was killed early yesterday morning following a fight with a patron at a bar in the area.

Police said the incident occurred around 4 a.m.

The victim, Damian Alexander, 35, was liming with friends at the Universal Bar and Lounge along  Western Main Road.

During the lime he and another man got into a heated argument. The argument escalated and the suspect reportedly broke a bottle and stabbed Alexander in the neck.

The man then ran off.

Patrons called St James police who arrived and took Alexander to the St James Medical Facility where he died while undergoing treatment.

The suspect, in the meantime, was arrested by St James CID officers and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Alexander’s body was later moved to the Port of Spain Mortuary and a post-mortem is expected to take place today at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

The year’s murder toll stood at 193 up to last night while the corresponding toll last year was 161.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
