Man charged with rape of 12-year-old

DANE DEMOL yesterday cried after he was denied bail for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

Demol, 26, appeared before San Fernando Magistrate Margaret Alert who read the charges that on dates unknown between May 1 to August 31, 2011, he, together with another person, allegedly had sexual intercourse with the girl without her consent.

Two more counts of rape were read to him, alleging that he had sexual intercourse with the primary school pupil on dates unknown between March 1 to July 31 and August 1 to November 30, 2012.

Demol, of Gasparillo was also charged with wounding Kelvin Alfred with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Alfred, 34, had his hand severed during an argument outside a bar in Gasparillo last week Friday.

Demol, a labourer, was not called upon to plea to the indictable charges laid by Corporal Ifill and constable Luke.

Alert asked about his criminal background and was told a criminal background tracing will be available December 17.

She also transferred the matter from the San Fernando Fourth Magistrates' Court to the First Court.

Demol sobbed as he was led out the courtroom in handcuffs.
