Man killed crossing highway

AN unidentified man has was knocked down and killed while attempting to cross the Churchill- Roosevelt Highway, near the Omera intersection yesterday morning.

According to police, the man, who is believed to be a security guard at Omera Industrial Estate, was crossing the east bound lanes of the highway around 9.50 a.m. when the driver of a white Nissan Cefiro struck him, throwing him several feet into the air.

The man, of East Indian descent, who police say is approximately 50 years old, was clad in a striped T-shirt and blue jeans, died on the scene.

Police believed the man had crossed the street to purchase a newspaper and was attempting to make his way back to his workplace when the accident happened.

The 38-year-old driver, of Alpha Crescent, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he is warded.

Acting Sgt Khan of the Arima Police Station is continuing enquiries.
