TEMPERS flared in Beetham Gardens last night after a resident was struck and killed by a car heading west as he was crossing Beetham Highway on his way to the landfill.
Up to press time last night the name and age of the victim were not yet known to the police.
This brings the road death toll to four.
The accident occurred at 6.30 p.m. when the man attempted to dodge on-coming traffic as he made his way towards the entrance of the landfill. Police said after being struck at a relatively high speed he died almost instantly as a result of the blow.
Police said they called out officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch and the Port of Spain Divisional Task Force in a bid to keep tempers in check and avoid attacks on motorists heading both east and west last night.
The driver of the car was also questioned by officers of Besson Street Police Station and investigations are on-going.
The district medical officer visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Port of Spain Mortuary. From there the body will be moved to the Forensic Science Centre, Long Circular, where a post-mortem is expected to take place today.
