Man's body found in baigan field

POLICE are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the body of a man found yesterday morning with a chop wound to the neck.

Police officers were alerted to the discovery around 8 a.m. by farmer Harideo Armoogam, who went to tend to his baigan plantation on Orange Grove Road Extension, Tacarigua.

The body was found some 20 feet off the roadway in the field.

Armoogam said he went to harvest his produce to take to the market when he found the body. He added that the discovery was "strange to him" and he "started to shake to see a dead body in my garden".

The deceased was believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30, five feet seven inches tall, wearing a red T-shirt with a grey three-quarter pants and a pair of white sneakers. He had a corn-row hairstyle and was of medium build with a round face, police said.

ASP Ramkellawan, Inspectors David and Lawrence visited the scene. Homicide CSI, led by WPC Kassim, gathered evidence. PC Francis is continuing investigations.

This death takes the murder toll for the year to 60, according to an Express tally.
