TWO men were shot and killed between Friday night and yesterday morning at Laventille, bringing the year's murder toll to 91 up to last night.
The first victim was Abdul Mohammed, 25.
Police said around 7 p.m. on Friday, Mohammed was in the front passenger seat of a stolen car being driven through Desperlie Crescent off the Laventille Road when a gunman approached the vehicle.
He pulled out a pistol and opened fire, hitting Mohammed twice in the chest.
The driver then ran off leaving Mohammed. Residents from the area called the police who took him to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 6.30 a.m. yesterday.
Police said they had no motive behind Mohammed's murder but they said the car had been reported stolen three weeks ago in the Couva area.
The second murder occurred around 6.30 a.m. yesterday at McShine Lands off the Laventille Road near the Witco Desperadoes Pan Theatre.
The victim was Rossi Jeffers aged 25. He lived at Sapana Street, Morvant.
Police said on Friday night he left his home to attend a party at McShine Lands but during the party Jeffers got into a fight with two other men.
No one could say what the fight was about but around 6.30 a.m., while Jeffers was leaving the party, a gunman walked up behind him and shot him once to the back of the head, killing him instantly.
Officers from the Besson Street CID including Insp Sahadeo Singh along with Homicide Bureau personnel visited the scene where they conducted enquiries.
They said Jeffers was not known to them. Other people in Laventille said they knew Jeffers and that he had anger management issues.
No one has been arrested for either murder.
Homicide Bureau officers are investigating.
