Man’s leg amputated after beaten, robbed

A Mayaro man had his leg amputated after being beaten and robbed while carrying out Christmas shopping last week in Tobago.
Five men took Lindon Baptiste, sometime between 3-5 p.m. last Wednesday in Scarborough, then drove him to Moriah where he was beaten and robbed of more than $3,000 in cash.
He suffered a broken right leg in the attack and the leg was later amputated at Port of Spain General Hospital, where he is recovering.
Baptiste is a sanitation engineer with Solid Waste Management Co Ltd (SWMCOL).
Insp Brandon John is continuing investigations into the incident. —Elizabeth Williams
