Massive waves roll in later than expected
THE huge waves that were expected to hit beaches throughout Trinidad and Tobago yesterday were expected to come ashore last night.
According to the Meteorological Office, the large waves forecast since early last week came last night after many beach goers had already left for home.
"These long period swells will produce large battering waves, affecting both the near shore and onshore areas of Trinidad and Tobago over the next 24 hours," a release from the Met Office stated yesterday.
Swells are being generated by high wind speeds accompanying a frontal system which is associated with a low pressure centre presently over the central North Atlantic Ocean, the release stated, and citizens, especially those residing along coastal areas, are asked to be on the alert for above normal sea conditions.
