Officials from the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are currently investigating the disappearance of more than 200 food cards from the St Vincent Street, Port of Spain, office of the Ministry of the People and Social Development.
Police reported that at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, regional co-ordinator at the ministry Desiree Jones-John secured her office and went away for the night.
When she returned to the building at about 7 a.m. yesterday, she observed the door to the office was open.
She entered the room and noticed several items had been tampered with and a bundle of food cards she had in the room was missing.
Jones-John contacted the police and a party of officers from the Port of Spain CID, including ASP Ajith Persad and Inspector Roy Ramdeo, visited the scene.
Several attempts to reach officials from the Ministry of the People proved unsuccessful.
