A 23-year-old mother of two was hacked to death hours after obtaining a restraining order against a man on Monday.

Orpha Hackett, a security officer, was stabbed and chopped multiple times in the head, neck and chest. Hackett was at the home of her sister, Jinelle West, when she was attacked around 2p.m. West lives at St Ann's Village, Mayaro.

The killer, a 29-year-old man, was chased by villages and detained until police arrived. Police said Hackett recently ended an abusive relationship. She went to the Mayaro Magistrates Court where she secured a retraining order on Monday morning.

She lived at Oilfield Road, Union Village, Mayaro. Investigators believe the man followed Hackett to her sister's home. He was armed with a knife and cutlass.

Police said neighbours heard the woman's screams and rushed to help. The suspect was chased half mile into the bushes where he was held. Hackett was taken to the Mayaro District Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where an autopsy will be performed today.
