Mom sent to St Ann's

THE mother of three who allegedly burnt the hands of her three young children after they reportedly stole milk and corn flakes has been remanded to St Ann's Mental Hospital following her court appearance yesterday.

Lyanna Taylor, 25 of Sunset Drive, Quash Trace, Sangre Grande, appeared before Magistrate Ejenny Espinet charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm to her three children, ages four, six and eight.

Taylor is alleged to have placed the children's hands over a lit stove to punish them for taking corn flakes and milk without her consent.

Taylor will have to re-appear in court on March 7 after Espinet ordered that she be kept at the mental institution for evaluation.

Following her arrest last Saturday, Taylor was hospitalised after falling sick while in police custody.

The burns were discovered when the father of the four-year-old saw the burns on his daughter's hand and enquired about it.

The 30-year-old man has custody of the three children until other arrangements can be made.
