POLITCAL leader of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) Jack Warner has accused Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal of knowingly deceiving citizens when he made a claim in Parliament on Monday that Warner's family benefited under the People's Partnership Government.
Warner questioned Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal's motive in raising the issue of the rental of a building owned by his son, Daryan Warner. Details of the transaction were carried in yesterday's Express.
Speaking at a mass political meeting to launch the ILP Local Government campaign at Gasparillo Junction on Tuesday night, Warner claimed that Moonilal had knowledge of the transaction, as the Property and Rate Estate Services Division of the Ministry of Housing was responsible for the process.
"Dr Moonilal knew that I, Jack Warner, had nothing to do with the rental of the building on 63A Mucurapo Road, St James. He knew that," he said.
He said Moonilal knew that negotiation to use the building began under the PNM with the younger Warner, and it was completed under the People's Partnership Government.
"Dr Moonilal knew that before he came to lie to the Parliament yesterday and impute mischief against me, that to obtain approval for the use of a building, a number of other approvals have to be obtained before it reaches Cabinet," he said.
Warner said that among the approvals required were Fire Services Department, Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and Commission of Valuations.
"Dr Moonilal left his home yesterday morning knowing full well of his plan to deceive you the people and for that reason and many others, tonight he will no longer be known as Dr Moonilal, but as Dr Roodal Moonylie," he said.
Warner said he had recused himself from all discussions in that matter.
"He would never tell you that he would never recuse himself from the Cabinet when matters relating to his brother were being discussed in Cabinet," he said.
Warner accused the People's Partnership Government of knowingly appointing Reshmi Ramnarine as the head of an intelligence unit. "But everyone, on the banner of collective responsibility was prepared to do wrong and try to sneak her into office. And that was wrong and today I ask for your forgiveness," he said.
He said the People's Partnership Government also knew it had failed to do the due diligence that was expected. "But on the altar of collective responsibility, the Cabinet approved it because it had more consequences for political mileage they thought than political deficit. And that was wrong," he said.
Moonilal said in December 2010 the Works Ministry which was at the time led by Jack Warner gave approval to DW Property Holdings Ltd to accommodate the Ministry of National Security on its property.
Moonilal said Warner’s family members benefited handsomely under the People’s Partnership Government. Warner had earlier said he would go down on his knees and beg for forgiveness every day for having been part of what he described as the most corrupt Government in this country.
