THE village of Felicity gave a tearful farewell to fatal car crash victim Katematie Rampersad and spoke of her generosity and love at her funeral service yesterday.

Mourners wailed and wept as the last rites were performed on Rampersad's body at the service held at her home at Boundary Road.

Rampersad, 59, and her neighbour and friend, Hassim Ramjohn, were killed last Friday night in a car driven by her husband, Jagdeo Rampersad, after it was struck by another vehicle on Solomon Hochoy Highway near Chase Village Flyover.

Jagdeo Rampersad said the car was hit on the left side and the vehicle spun out of control and hit a lamp post.

Among the mourners was Chaguanas Mayor Orlando Nagessar, who said he also attended Ramjohn's funeral on New Year's Day.

"I said a few words at the other accident victim's funeral. What a sad occasion it was," said Nagessar.

Of Rampersad, the mayor said: "We all heard that she was a kind, caring and temple-going person. This holiday will never be forgotten by members of this and the other family. It is the saddest thing that will ever happen for a family to lose their loved ones during this very happy season."

Nagessar said he learned that a suspect in the double motor manslaughter of Ramjohn and Rampersad had been charged by police.

"Let the court do its part and justice shall prevail. That's all we can hope for," said the mayor.

Rampersad was cremated at Lackhan Carria Crematorium at Felicity.
