Move to set Security Ministry arm in Laventille

By Camille Bethel

An arm of the Ministry of National Security is to be set up in Laventille, Minister of National Security Jack Warner said yesterday.
Speaking at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Youth Club extravaganza at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya yesterday Warner said: “(Today) at 10 a.m. we begin to uproot trees and clear lands for the Division of National Security in Laventille.”
Warner told the 4,000-plus youths gathered for the function that he had been to Laventille early yesterday morning to begin making arrangements for the commencement of work there.
“I went to Beverly Hills, John John, Eastern Quarry. I went there because the Prime Minister said to us last Thursday that we have to deliver to Laventille what we promised Laventille.”
He said he went into Laventille without a security contingent deliberately and received a warm welcome from the people in the areas he visited.
Alluding to the PNM march against Section 34, to which thousands of people turned up last Tuesday, Warner told the young people and their parents that there is a concerted effort by some to destablise the government and the country and that they should not follow the lead of such persons.
