Mt Hope robbery suspect held in raid
AN exercise in the Northern Division which lasted 24 hours from midnight on Friday resulted in the arrest of 25 people on various charges including robbery, arms and ammunition possession, narcotics possession and car larceny.
The raids were spearheaded by Snr Supt David Abraham and was led by Sgt Vetus Hernandez, Sgt Harewood and Sgt Pitt along with officers of the Robbery Squad and Northern Divisional Task Force.
Police said during the raid they seized an AK-47 assault rifle and 25 rounds of ammunition, a sawed off shotgun as well as three cars that had been reported stolen earlier this year.
Among the 25 people arrested was one man from Bangladesh, St Joseph for the robbery of ten medical students and their lecturer last week at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Officers said they found a cellphone belonging to one of the medical students in the suspect's possession.
The police said they expected that the man's accomplice will soon be arrested.
Enquiries are continuing.
