Murder victim arson suspect
A man shot dead in Carenage on Friday night was yesterday positively identified as Macio Delpish, 19, of Schuller Street, Carenage.
The Express spoke to a close female relative at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday morning as she speculated that he was killed after it was rumoured that he recently attempted to burn down a boat-yard being built near where he lived.
Police said around 6 p.m. on Friday, Delpish and another man were walking along Schuller Street and when they got to the corner of Western Main Road, a black Nissan Tiida stopped alongside them and a gunman got out.
He opened fire, hitting the two men about their bodies, following which the gunman got back into the car which sped off. Delpish was killed on the spot.
The other man was taken to Port of Spain General Hospital where he was still being treated up to last night.
According to Delpish’s relatives, he lived alone not far from his family home and was unemployed at the time of his death.
The woman also said he did not do anything much after he completed Servol.
“I heard rumours that someone building a boat-yard and he (the boat-yard’s owner) was the victim of an arson attack on his property and it was believed that he (Delpish) did it.”
She said he recently received threats about this, but he paid it little mind as he insisted to his family that he had nothing to do with the incident.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
