Murder accused sent to St Ann's

By Nikita Braxton-Benjamin

THE MAN who allegedly murdered grandmother Carmen Ramjattan is being evaluated at St Ann's Hospital.

At the last hearing, defence attorney Jason Jackson told the court he was unable to get instructions from his client, Ramjohn Doodlal, and asked that he be sent for a mental health assessment.

At the last court appearance, Doodlal looked up at the ceiling and did not respond to his name when called.

Doodlal, 43, of La Romaine, was charged by Cpl Stephen James that on February 20 at Phillipine, he murdered Ramjattan.

Yesterday, Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington said officials from the institution had asked for 14 more days to do their evaluation on Doodlal.

The magistrate remanded him to the St Ann's Hospital until April 2.

Ramjattan, 70, of Sunkist Drive, Phillipine, was found bludgeoned to death at her home last month.

Her stolen car was traced and a man was found driving the Nissan Almera along the M2 Ring Road in Debe.
