Music teacher in court on sex charge too

A 69-year-old music teacher yesterday appeared in court charged with sexual offences against a 15-year-old female pupil.

Stephen Achibar of Seukeran Street, San Fernando is charged with grievous sexual assault and indecent assault against the child.

The alleged incidents happened on July 4, 2013  following rehearsals for a concert.

The private music tutor was arrested on Tuesday at his home. He was charged the following day and appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court..

Achibar was not called upon to plea to the indictable charges laid by constable Sarah-Jane Dindial.

Wellington allowed Achibar to continue on the bail granted at the police station and adjourned the matter to March 12.

It is alleged that last July the child had attended the rehearsals and was taken into a room where she was sexually and indecently assaulted.
