NCBA ‘waiting on’ Band of the Year results

By Michelle Loubon

David Lopez, president of the National Carnival Bandleaders’ Association (NCBA) said last night he was “just as anxious” for the 2014 Band of the Year results to be released.
Up to press time, however, the national results were not released by the NCBA. Results had not been posted online.
In a telephone interview, Lopez said: “I am awaiting the results. It will be released in an hour. The judges are doing the adjudi-
cation. I don’t do the adjudication. We are not having a press conference. We are posting the results online.”
However the hour lapsed into several hours up till press time.
During Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Lopez said bands will have to adhere to the NCBA’s rules or risk disqualification.
It was understood the delay was due to some bands having to be disqualified and the need for a proper audit in the face of a challenge.
Asked about “disqualification”, Lopez said: “There are rules to be followed. I don’t know about downtown results. I know about the national results.”
When contacted, Nation-
al Carnival Commission (NCC) chairman Allison Demas said: “I am waiting for the results. I was told it would be available within an hour. I have no choice but to wait.”
At 8 p.m., Demas said: “I can’t comment. No results yet.
