THE New National Vision (NNV) has its sights set on two regional corporations in the upcoming local government elections.
Yesterday, leader of the party Fuad Abu Bakr filed nominations at the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), Scott House, Frederick Street, Port of Spain, as the NNV seeks to capture a seat on the Diego Martin Regional Corporation and Marabella West on the San Fernando City Corporation.
Abu Bakr told the Express outside the EBC office, he was confident of his party’s chances but his focus was set more towards the general election which is due in 2015.
“We said we would be contesting and we are. It is very limited but we are. We have two candidates, so it is very limited unlike the PNM (People’s National Movement) and the ILP (Independent Liberal Party) who were able to put forward 136 candidates.
“However, we look forward to the elections and we think our chances are good.
“We will definitely be around and will be competing in the next general election which we think is way more important,” he said.
“It takes a lot of resources to get involved in elections and we believe that the general election is coming soon.
“It may even come sooner than it is constitutionally due,” Abu Bakr said.
