Gérard Latulippe is the High Commissioner for Canada to this country.

He presented his credentials to Prof George Maxwell Richards on Tuesday. Following the ceremony, Latulippe paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-

Bissessar and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Dookeran.

"I am extremely pleased to be Canada's next High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago. 2012 was an important milestone as Canada and Trinidad and Tobago celebrated 50 years of official diplomatic relations between our two countries.

"As I embark on this assignment, I wish to continue to build our already strong relationship with industry, Government, civil society, but most importantly, with your people," he said after the meeting, according to a statement from the Canadian High Commission.

"Trinidad and Tobago is a close friend of Canada and a major partner for us in the Caribbean and the hemisphere. I want to further our work with Trinidad and Tobago in the areas of trade, security and good governance.

"As your national motto indicates, 'Together we Aspire, Together we Achieve'. I want Canada and Trinidad and Tobago to work together towards the greater good of both our nations."

"I look forward to meeting Trinbagonians from all walks of life, and I very much look forward to my first Carnival, which I am told is the greatest show on earth."
