New York consulate reopens after Sandy

The Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in New York will resume operations from Thursday.

The Consulate has been closed since October 29, after Hurricane Sandy battered the east coast of the United States, causing severe damage to the offices of the consulate.

In a statement issued by the Consulate yesterday, members of the public are advised that the offices at 125 Maiden Lane will resume full consular services during its normal working hours from Thursday.

However, persons who had appointments scheduled from October 29 to December 5 should not visit the Consulate until contacted. "All persons who have appointments scheduled from Thursday, December 6, 2012, and onwards should visit the Consulate General as scheduled. All persons who had appointments scheduled during the period Monday, October 29, 2012, to Wednesday, December 5, 2012, will be contacted by the Consulate General staff to arrange a new appointment date. Such persons should not visit the Consulate General until a new appointment date is arranged.

"Consul General Rudrawatee Nan Ramgoolam takes take this opportunity to thank all nationals and other visitors to the Consulate General for their patience in these trying times, and asks for continued support as the staff moves swiftly to restore full services to all."

The release also advised the Consulate is open for service from 7 a.m., and not before, and sought to assure persons there is no need to line up in front of the building before 7 a.m. in the cold, as they would be served.

Should there be any change to this arrangement, the public will be informed through the Consulate's General website, Facebook page and other media.

The Consulate General in New York is responsible for providing consular services to persons residing in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, and is focused on promoting Trinidad and Tobago and providing services for its diaspora, the release added.
