No bail for soldier on sex charge
Corporal Anthony Lewis of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment was yesterday denied bail on a sex charge involving a 12-year-old girl.
Lewis appeared before Arima Magistrate Indrani Cedeno, charged with acts of serious indecency against the girl.
He was arrested on Wednesday after the girl’s mother reported the matter to the police, who sought direction from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC on whether the soldier should be charged.
Police say the child was at home babysitting her sister when the corporal, who is known to the family, visited and allegedly committed the crime.
The girl eventually told her mother what allegedly occurred.
Corporal Lewis is expected to reappear in court on January 6.
