TWO men were denied bail when they appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with the rape of a 12-year-old schoolgirl.
Lorenzo McLeod, 24, and Brandon Browne, 27, who live in the Barataria area, appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor in the Seventh Court.
They are charged with raping the girl on two occasions earlier this month.
Baboolal-Gafoor said she was not willing to grant bail to McLeod as he had also been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and had other matters pending before the court.
In the case of Browne, the magistrate said she did not have an issue with granting him bail but raised concern over the close proximity to which he lives from the girl.
Both men were arrested on Tuesday after the girl and her parents made a report to police.
Baboolal-Gafoor remanded McLeod into prison custody to reappear in court on February 27.
Browne will return to court on February 10 when the magistrate will deal with the issue of bail.
