BODIES have littered Laventille and the East Port of Spain area within the last month.
Most have fallen to gun violence.
Police have said it is a war between two major gangs and allege that one of those gangs is headed by 29-year-old Ashton Boney, aka “Boombay”.
But Boombay claims that is far from the truth.
“As far as I understand, is people from within their own self fighting amongst themselves. Everybody know that, and I sure police have an idea about that, so I don’t know why they want to blame me and acknowledge that I have a part to do with that,” said Boney.
So is there a bloody war between him and men from other areas?
“Do you have any beef with ‘Chemist’ or ‘Burkey’ from Sea Lots?” TV6 asked Boney.
“No, I don’t have any beef with them fellas, and then a matter of fact when I was arrested and spend five days in the station, me and Burkey was making cell (sic) and reasoning and talking and laughing together, so how anyone could be saying if we having beef together, and the minute they put us together is love.”
There have been questions swirling around about his relationship with Central car dealership owner Sherron’s, which he sought to clear up as well.
Boney said: “People just assume what they don’t know. If I am a businessman and I do a job and with my profit from it I decided to open a next business, so when they try to tarnish my character like this I can stand up on my own and feed my family otherwise.
“Them fellas and them up on their side doing business on their side and selling vehicles, so I would just buy my vehicles from them and do my business.”
Boombay says he is no crime boss and he is not the main man in the area.
He’s no shot caller and has never ordered anyone to take the life of someone else.
“There are two sides to a story, you have to ascertain the truth, Not everything the police or media say will be true.”
Youths in the Laventille area, Boney said, are misguided by those who lead them down a path for their own personal gains.
Ironically, police and high-ranking intelligence sources said: “But this is the same man who is capable of that.”
However, Boney shot back: “With me there has to be a deed and religion within that perspective, and I try to guide the youths on that path of religion and deed and that tells you not to go and listen to no Movado or Cartel or Popcaan and them kind of thing.”
