PETROTRIN’S president Khalid Hassanali said the information about tank MP6 given to the public by the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) was correct.
However, information that Petrotrin was attempting to hide the facts was wrong, he said. He denied any consipracy.
Yesterday, during a press conference, OWTU’s president general Ancel Roget showed the media documents containing information about the MP6 tank at Petrotrin’s Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.
On Tuesday, Petrotrin reported a leak from that tank resulting in a broken bund wall and slop oil (mixture of oil and other susbtances) being released into the Guaracara River. The tank contained at least 20,000 barrels of slop with some 17,000 being leaked.
Hassanali told the Express: “With respect to the failed tank, that information was sent out in an information bulletin to all employees before this press conference so that is not hidden. Secondly, in respect to the failed bund wall, that information was also sent out to employees since the day before yesterday so that is not hidden.”
He said: “Thirdly, the police in their own capacity, when a thing like this happens, did take the originals out of the inspection room but they left copies there and they did that for the purpose of making sure we preserve information.”
“There is no hiding. I have said everything that the OWTU said already. The OWTU is correct. the OWTU is correct about the tank, the OWTU is correct about the bund wall but not correct about any conspiracy,” Hassanali said.
