A MAN charged with the pre-Christmas robberies of five people was yesterday denied bail by Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.
Haffin Jandoolal was charged that three days before Christmas, he and others allegedly robbed Kern Belgrave of two cellphones, together valued $2,200, and $144 at Coffee Street, San Fernando and used personal violence against the victim.
Jandoolal, 27, of Penal, also faced charges that he robbed La Richard Sequera, Kern Mitchell, Suzette David and Yuklin Guerra of $4,000, cellular phones and jewelry along Southern Main Road, La Romaine.
Defence attorney Shaun Teekasingh said his client had no previous matters before the court and was the father of two young children.
He said Jandoolal went to make a report to the police and was instead arrested.
Police Prosecutor Cleon Seedan asked for an opportunity to have Jandoolal's criminal background checked.
He was remanded into custody until January 10.
Jandoolal will face the Fourth Court magistrate on that day.
