By Susan Mohammed

A 29-YEAR-OLD Chaguanas man, who allegedly kidnapped, beat and raped a 27-year-old nurse in the presence of her four-year-old son, was arrested on Thursday.

The suspect, of Chrissie Terrace, Enterprise, was held in a house at Welcome Road, Cunupia, during a police exercise in the district, conducted by officers of the Chaguanas CID and Central Division Task Force.

The woman, of Lendore Village, has been hospitalised since the attack on Tuesday.

The woman told police she was at Chaguanas on Tuesday morning awaiting transport when the suspect pulled up in a car with her son seated in the front seat. The suspect beat her as she stood roadside, then pushed her into the car.

The man drove to Ragoonanan Trace where he pulled her into some bushes and beat her unconscious.

The suspect threw her in the trunk of the vehicle and then drove to Coker Trace, where he raped and beat her unconscious.

The woman told police she woke up later at night in a bedroom with her son.

She told police during the ordeal her son  cried and screamed at the suspect to stop hurting her.

Police said the matter has been referred to the Victims' Support Unit and mother and son are expected to undergo counselling.

The suspect is expected to be charged with the offences this weekend and appear in court on Monday.
