One dead after fight in Curepe

A FIGHT among a group of men at a bar in Curepe yesterday morning left one man dead and his cousin injured.
The murder toll for the year to date stood at 77 up to last night, while the figure at this time last year was 71.
Police said that around 3.30 a.m., the victim, Gerald Lee-Thomas, 19, of Upper Fairley Street, Tunapuna, was at CAPS bar located along Southern Main Road, Curepe when he and another man got into a fight.
The man was beaten and left the bar. He returned with a gun and opened fire on Lee-Thomas, hitting him once to the head. Lee-Thomas’ cousin was also shot. Lee-Thomas ran out the bar but collapsed on the roadway where he died.
The teenager’s cousin was taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex at Mt Hope, where he remained in stable condition up to last night. The gunman remained on the run up to last night.
Officers of St Joseph Police Station as well as the Homicide Bureau visited the scene.
