A PRIVATE-HIRE (PH) taxi-driver was fatally shot by one of his passengers, in one of two murders to take place in Laventille yesterday.
Charles Alexis, a 34-year-old PH driver, was killed yesterday while plying his taxi along the Rudolph Charles Link Road in Laventille.
Alexis drove his taxi on the Laventille-to-Port of Spain route.
According to reports, around 1.30 p.m. yesterday, Alexis was driving his taxi on the Rudolph Charles Link Road when one of his passengers asked to be let out.
When Alexis stopped the car, he was shot twice in the neck by the backseat passenger.
He died on the spot.
The gunman ran away.
Investigating officers discovered Alexis slumped over the steering wheel of his car.
ASP Sahadeo Singh, Sgt John, along with Homicide Bureau personnel, visited the scene yesterday.
A motive is still to be determined for Alexis's death.
The other murder to take place in Laventille yesterday was the shooting death of Community-based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP) worker Michael Rigault.
According to reports, residents of Cross Street in Laventille heard several gunshots around 6 a.m. yesterday.
Officers were called to the crime scene and Rigault, a resident from the area, was found dead in an alley, a stone's throw away from his home.
Rigault was not known to the police, and a motive has not been determined for his killing.
Investigations are continuing.
