PM backs AG in wife issue
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is standing by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan in the face of legal letters seeking to block the Express from publishing any story about him and his wife.
“Yes, I raised the matter with the Attorney General, he has said those matters are totally false and so all I have would be the word of one against the other,” Persad-Bissessar said yesterday at a post-budget news conference.
“I would believe my Attorney General at this time until there is any evidence that will be forthcoming or that is forthcoming.”
Senior counsel Pamela Elder and attorney Jagdeo Singh have both written Express editor-in-chief Omatie Lyder, warning that action would be taken should “falsities” be published about their clients.
Elder is representing AG Anand Ramlogan, while Singh has issued a legal letter on behalf of the AG’s wife, Nalini Ramlogan.
The letters were sent to Lyder as reporter Anika Gumbs continues her investigation into certain allegations which took her last week to the Ramlogans’ Palmiste home and that of the AG’s in-laws in Barrackpore.
