PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday blanked a function, for which she was the intended feature speaker, to participate in a motorcade in her constituency.
The function was to distribute housing repair grants from the National Commission for Self Help to 100 people. It was held at Persad-Bissessar’s constituency office in Penal.
Persad-Bissessar is the Member of Parliament for Siparia.
According to the programme, the Prime Minister was listed as the featured speaker and the starting time was 1.30 p.m. From as early as noon, people came to collect their grants, some with their children and elderly parents.
At around 2 p.m., an announcement was made stating that the function was starting late because of the late arrival of the Prime Minister.
She arrived at 2.35 p.m. on the compound. The function started a few minutes later with the national anthem being played.
At around 3 p.m., Persad-Bissessar jumped on a truck with Dr Roodal Moonilal and Stacy Roopnarine, MPs for Oropouche East and West, respectively. The PM gave a brief address to supporters, saying she was confident of a win in today’s localgovernment elections.
She then drove off from the compound with the function still taking place at her office.
