PM congratulates Deodat Maharaj on new appointment

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has congratulated Trinidadian Deodat Maharaj on his appointment to the post of Deputy Secretary-General for Development and Social Affairs of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
In a letter to Maharaj, Persad-Bissessar stated: “This is not only a commendable feat but an historic and profound moment for Trinidad and Tobago as you are the first of our citizens to hold this esteemed position. I am confident that your experience within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will contribute positively to the mandate of the Commonwealth Secretariat, particularly as it has embarked on a new strategic phase of Development with education, health, sustainable livelihoods and women’s development being highlighted as priority areas in moving forward”.
The Prime Minister said it was her wish that Maharaj’s new role brings him success and added that she looked forward to cooperating with him in the future.
